ThePSYCHIC FESTIVAL ofRICHMOND

Our Purpose
The purpose of The Baby Girl Project is to find creative and innovative ways to empower young girls in Third World Nations who would otherwise not receive an education.  The project will do this through its own self-initiated efforts as well as through cooperating with other like-minded organizations.

"Never doubt that a small group of
thoughtful, committed citizens can
change the world; indeed it is the
only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead

Our Current Project
The Baby Girl Project is presently raising funds to build schools in the Masai Mara region of Kenya with Free The Children, an organization of children helping children.  The schools will help to empower young Masai girls with a chance for a brighter future through education and economic independence.  This will help to liberate future generations of girls who are currently subjected to early marriage, illiteracy, and sexual mutilation (female circumcision) while respecting the traditions of this unique and beautiful culture.

The Masai Mara region in Kenya is one of the world's most beautiful animal and plant habitats.  The Masai people have traditionally been marginalized and under-served by the Kenyan government.  They have little access to education and health care services.  For example, Masailand has the highest primary school dropout rate in Kenya, mainly because of poor facilities, their need to tend cattle, and lack of support from those in power.  Many Masai children start their education late because schools are too far away from their communities.

This SCHOOL PROJECT will fulfill a great need for Kenyan communities and will continue to provide indigenous children the chance for a brighter future.
